The island is much more than just a fad, it’s a real lifestyle. The island is the bond that assures a harmonious relation between the kitchen and the living area. The island may be conceived with slanted or rounded lines, open elements or coloured, the island gives your kitchen character and represents a convivial component for relaxed entertaining.
Oftentimes a central island is chosen for spacious kitchens (over 20 m2) that allow the installation for some cooking elements in the middle of the room. When installing an island, enough space must remain for easy circulation with at least 90 cm available for opening drawers and 1m20 for two people to pass by.
It may be wide enough to accommodate some storage on both sides. It may be closed on the kitchen’s side with easy access to storage and open on the living side for some decorative objects. The standard size of an island represents 120x90. You can for instance install a hob measuring 60x60 cm. There will be enough space left for a preparation area. The remaining worktop can accommodate a comfortable snack area.
